ABOUT THE ROUTE

 

This tour summarises everything adventure motorcycling in South Africa is about: remoteness, immensity, endurance, technical challenges, and last but not least the landscape diversity of the country.

The 2’300km route has been optimised for the use of small displacement motorcycles, avoiding wherever possible long stretches of straight gravel roads.

The itinerary will bring you through some of the most spectacular places of South Africa , such as the Tankwa Karoo, the Ouberg Pass, the Seweweekspoort, the Swartberg Pass, the Gamkaskloof (Die Hel), the Grootrivier Poort, the iconic Baviaanskloof, the Kouga and Outeniqua mountains, before returning to Cape Town via the Rooiberg Pass and the Klein Karoo.

Meeting at endurafrica – Collection of the motorcycles

Ride to the Tankwa Karoo via Ceres and the Katbakkies Pass – Bike X Cape tented camp

Day 2: (277 or 315km)

Bike X Cape – Amandelnek Pass – Ouberg Pass – Sutherland – Laingsburg

Day 3: (204km)

Laingsburg – Seeweweekspoort – Calizdorp – Swartberg Pass – Gamkaskloof – Die Hel

Day 4: (217km)

Die Hel – Prince Albert – Genasfontein – Leeukloof Pass – Willowmore

Day 5: (190km)

Willowmore – Grootrivier Poort – Antoniesberg Pass – Patensie

Day 6: (115km)

Patensie – Baviaanskloof – Studtis

Day 7: (240km)

Studtis – Rust en Vrede 4×4 trail – Kareedouw – Brakkloof – Uniondale

Day 8: (224km)

Uniondale – Prince Alfred’s Pass – De Vlugt – Die Ou Voortrekkerpas – George – Oudtshoorn

Day 9: (268km)

Oudtshoorn – Rooiberg Pass – Klein Karoo – Ladismith – Montagu

Day 10: (273km)

Montagu – Greyton – Franschhoek – Bellville (arrival around 16:00)

OTHER INFORMATION

 

This tour only requires basic off-road skills, however and although the small displacement dual-sport motorcycles make things easier than with a big adventure bike, a reasonable level of fitness is strongly recommended.

Some of the trails are not practicable after heavy rains, in that manner the itinerary described might be, for safety reasons, slightly modified without prior notice.
