ABOUT THE ROUTE

 

This tour summarises everything adventure motorcycling in South Africa is about: remoteness, immensity, endurance, technical challenges, and last but not least the landscape diversity of the country.

The over 1’700km route has been optimised for the use of small displacement motorcycles, avoiding long stretches of main gravel roads.

The itinerary will bring you through some of the most spectacular places of South Africa , such as the Seweweekspoort, the Swartberg Pass, the Gamkaskloof (Die Hel), the Grootrivier Poort, the iconic Baviaanskloof and the Kouga mountains, before returning to Sedgefield via the Prince Alfred’s Pass and a final highlight (Die Ou Voortrekkerpas trail) through the Outeniqua Mountains.

Meeting in Sedgefield (collection of the bikes and rider’s apparel)

Sedgefield – George via the 7 Old Passes Road – Montagu Pass – Oudtshoorn – Rooiberg Pass – Van Wyksdorp

Day 2: (250km)

Van Wyksdorp – Riversdale – Gysmanshoek Pass – Montagu

Day 3: (205km)

Montagu – Anysberg Nature Reserve – Seweweekspoort – Calizdorp

Day 4: (115km)

Calizdorp – Swartberg Pass – Gamkaskloof – Die Hel

Day 5: (230km)

Die Hel – Prince Albert – Genasfontein – Willowmore

Day 6: (190km)

Willowmore – Grootrivier Poort – Antoniesberg Pass – Patensie

Day 7: (115km)

Patensie – Baviaanskloof – Studtis

Day 8: (240km)

Studtis – Rust en Vrede 4×4 trail – Kareedouw – Brakkloof – Uniondale

Day 9: (145km)

Uniondale – Prince Alfred’s Pass – De Vlugt – Die Ou Voortrekkerpas – Sedgefield

OTHER INFORMATION

 

This tour only requires basic off-road skills, however and although the small displacement dual-sport motorcycles make things easier than with a big adventure bike, a reasonable level of fitness is strongly recommended.

Some of the trails are not practicable after heavy rains, in that manner the itinerary described might be, for safety reasons, slightly modified and without prior notice.
